Breaking Boundaries in Davao: Setting a New PR at the 1st Yakult 10-Miler
There is something undeniably electric about a race morning when everything aligns—the air is crisp, the legs feel fresh, and the energy of the running community is at an absolute peak.
This weekend marked a massive highlight in my running journey: taking on the first-ever 34th Yakult Philippines 10-Miler Series in Davao. To make the experience even more special, I got to stand at the starting line thanks to a free race entry provided by CN Creatives. Going in with gratitude and solid motivation, I pushed hard across every kilometer and walked away with a new Personal Record (PR)!
The Iconic Yakult 10-Miler Comes to Davao
The Yakult 10-Miler holds legendary status in the Philippine running scene, known for its deep history, flawless organization, and fast, competitive fields. Bringing this iconic 10-mile (approximately 16.1 km) distance to Davao offered local runners a unique challenge bridging the gap between a standard 10K and a full 21K half-marathon.
The Anatomy of a PR: Race Strategy & Execution
Hitting a new PR on a 16.1 km course requires a balanced mix of patience and calculated aggression. The 10-mile distance demands respect—start too fast, and the final 4 kilometers will turn into a grueling crawl; start too slow, and the PR slips away.
Kilometers 1–5 (Settling In): The gun went off, and the initial wave of adrenaline threatened to pull me into a pace that was too fast. I stayed disciplined, locking into a smooth, efficient rhythm to let my body warm up naturally.
Kilometers 6–12 (The Engine Room): This is where the work gets done. Cruising along the course, I focused on cadence, taking in hydration at the water stations, and staying locked onto the runners ahead to maintain momentum.
Kilometers 13–16.1 (The Final Push): Realizing a PR was well within reach, I emptied the tank over the final stretch. Crossing that finish line and stopping my watch to see a new personal best was a moment of pure triumph.
Grateful for the Journey
A massive shoutout to CN Creatives for giving me the opportunity to represent and run in this historic race. Having access to great events through supportive partners fuels my passion to keep pushing higher, running faster, and sharing these experiences with all of you.
The Yakult 10-Miler Davao leg was one for the books—a perfect mix of great course management, community spirit, and personal achievement. Time to celebrate this victory, recover properly, and start prepping for the next starting line!
