Tagum’s ‘Love Festival’ opens

Tagum City – True to its aspiration to be a City of People, Tagum launches its first-ever Love Festival which defines love as a core value in respecting other people regardless of their age, gender, religion, and economic status.

Last February 3, 2020, Mayor Allan L. Rellon acted as cupid during the opening of the said festival as he aimed his bow and arrow toward the led wall where the organizers eventually revealed the official logo of the festival.

The said festival which would be celebrated every February is among the 16 newly-institutionalized festivals in the city which would reinforce the city’s moniker as the City of Festivals.

Among the events that will be held during the festival is the LGU celebration of the Civil Registration Month where activities such as free registration of marriages, births, and deaths of Tagumenyos, free seminars for couples, and a series of Kasalan will be conducted for the whole duration of the festival.

In the same context, Hon. Jimmy B. Boco, the Presiding Judge of the Municipal Trial Court of Maco, Davao de Oro, and guest speaker for the launching event talked about “Love and Law” during his speech, juxtaposing love as an emotion and love defined by law.

In addition, civilians and city employees flocked around the heart icon at the Sunflower Garden as the City Government of Tagum brings its own version of South Korea’s Namsan Tower Lock where people leave love locks as their symbol of eternal love.

However, the city didn’t limit itself in defining love as an emotion shared only by couples for some activities also include a conference for youth focusing on avoiding heartaches and singing contest featuring love and happiness of family as a theme, among others.

These activities are in line with the festival’s central theme: “Love Shines Life” which means that although love has varied definitions, it is part of the spices of life and should be celebrated in order to help people shine throughout their whole lives.

Love Festival is currently the 2^nd festival to be celebrated this 2020 following the successful Taxpayers’ Festival in January and is expected to set the tone for the next 14 more festivals throughout the whole year. Ziyarah Manalo/CIO Tagum

Rellon signs into law ‘Festivals Code’ institutionalizing Tagum’s 16 festivals

Tagum City – Validating its claim as the City of Festivals, the local government of Tagum recently enacted the Code of Festivals of the City of Tagum, which further solidified the city’s resolve to maintain its status as the Best Tourism-oriented LGU in the Philippines.

Penned by Councilor Alderson Rellon, the enactment of the City Ordinance No. 911, series of 2019 paved the way for the institutionalization of the 16 festivals which are annually celebrated in the City of Palms.

Mayor Allan L. Rellon signed the Code of Festivals which was witnessed by a throng of LGU employees and those who were at the atrium for the renewal of their business registration.

The series of festivals has already begun as Tagumenyos welcomed the new year with the celebration of the Taxpayers’ Festival. On its first year of implementation, the month-long activity seeks to keep the taxpayers of Tagum entertained by various gimmicks such as raffle draws, free snacks, music, and trade fair, among others, as they wait in line to be served in the process of renewing their business.

Among the festivals to be celebrated for the first time this year are the Love Festival which will coincide with the nationally celebrated Civil Registration Month in February, and the Handurawan Festival which is aimed at celebrating and recognizing the city’s senior citizens.

The rest of the first quarter will have music and entertainment once again taking center stage during the Tagumpay and Musikahan Festivals , while the second quarter of the year will focus on social services, human development and celebration of culture and heritage with Hugpong Serbisyo Para sa Tagumpay in April, Youth Festival in May, and Pakaradyan Festival in June.

Focusing on the marginalized and public sectors, the third quarter will see the LGU giving importance on the LGBTQ+ members, farmers and government employees through the Pride Festival on July, the UGMAD Festival in August and the Lingkod Bayani Festivals in September.

Kaimunan and Scouting Festivals in October, Children’s Festival in November, and Pasasalamat and Tagumenyo Bisa’g Asa Festivals in December, on the other hand, are the festivities waiting for Tagumenyos and visitors on the last quarter of the year.

With the institutionalization of these events, Mayor Rellon, together with the rest of the 8^th city council, has high hopes for an increased tourism traffic in the city which will provide a better quality of life to the citizens as Tagum ultimately aims to be the City of People. Grand fireworks display marks Tagum City’s 2020 kickoff

Tagum City – The City of Palms joined the rest of the world as Tagumenyos welcome the start of a new decade with a magnificent show of music, laughs, and lights at the New City Hall Grounds during the city’s Year Start Countdown celebration organized by the City Government of Tagum

Showcasing its moniker as the Music Capital of the South, the LGU, through the City Tourism Office, invited local bands to perform during the countdown celebration. Included in the line-up were the battle of the band champions Pencil Case and Cuello Supplement Band and veteran performer Music Seven Band.

Tagumenyos were also entertained by Lyndon Almodiel aka “Petmalu” by sharing good vibes through his comedy skits.

Bracing themselves for the most anticipated event of the night, thousands of Tagumenyos and visitors grabbed their phones and/or hugged their loved ones when the real countdown started. A magnificent burst of lights soon followed and the people cheered in celebration of new beginnings.

The year 2020 is said to be the Year of the Metal Rat in the Chinese Calendar which is predicted to be a strong, prosperous, and lucky year for most people.
